COMPANY PROFILE
The Szanton Company, an affiliate of the Monks Companies, specializes in developing mixed-income rental housing in or near downtowns. The principals formed the company as an outgrowth of a successful consulting firm that provided development project management services to non-profit and for-profit clients. Since beginning to develop for itself, The Szanton Company has completed three new construction projects and is working on two more. Two of the completed buildings are located in Portland, ME, one with twenty-seven apartments and one with forty apartments. A third, a 30-unit apartment building, is located in Exeter, NH. The company will open a 43-unit apartment building in Portland in August, 2009 and is planning to break ground on a 66-unit project – an adaptive re-use of a historic mill building -- in Biddeford, ME in late Summer, 2009.
